Exercise is Medicine Canada @ Trois-Rivières held its first activity this month in a UQTR campus Sports Centre gymnasium. The objective was first and foremost to make the organisation known to people within the campus and to provide them with an overview of the types of activities that EIMC on Campus is aiming to organise for upcoming events. This is why we decided to combine in one event a conference followed by an athletic yoga session. The activity brought together about sixty people, the majority of which are students on the campus. It began with a short intro about what EIM is and its vision. It was followed by a short lecture given by a cardiologist from Trois-Rivières, Dr. Yanek Pépin-Dubois, who came to speak about the positive effects of being physically active on the cardiovascular system and on quality of life. Finally, Jean-François Brunelle and Julie Côté-Leclerc gave a challenging yoga training session. Participation was free for everyone and a healthy snack and iced tea provided by David's Tea was offered to everyone at the end.
Following this successful first event, our team, composed of students of kinesiology and of medicine, is looking forward to making concrete some of the many ideas we have in mind.
